The Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) is the largest general farm organization in Ontario, proudly representing 38,000 farm family members across the province.
Established in 1936, the OFA was organized in response to the creation of the Canadian Chamber of Agriculture in 1935, later renamed the Canadian Federation of Agriculture. For more than 80 years, OFA has been a leader in results-based advocacy and lobbying, and is driven by their mission – Farms and Food Forever.
OFA is a dynamic, producer-led organization based in Guelph, Ontario that works to represent and champion the diverse interests of Ontario’s agri-food sector and rural communities. Their work includes government relations, farm policy development, research, lobby efforts, community representation, media relations and more. They have a strong voice for their members and the agri-food industry on issues, legislation and regulations governed by municipal, provincial and federal governments.
They are the leading agricultural advocate for Ontario farmers, their farm businesses and their communities.
They consist of:
- Over 38,000 family farm businesses from across Ontario and growing
- 52 county and regional federations for strong, local leadership
- 31 organizational members and affiliates representing many of Ontario’s commodities
- A team of 21 knowledgeable, experienced Member Service Representatives spanning the province to provide front-line service to members
- A team of eight skilled farm policy research staff to keep on top of regulatory and legislative matters
Through their Producing Prosperity campaign, OFA believes that Ontario’s agri-food sector can spearhead economic prosperity for the entire province. Rural Ontario needs investments to grow existing businesses, attract new companies and boost opportunities for regional economic development. SCOR partners with OFA to advocate for rural natural gas and broadband internet expansion, rural transportation infrastructure, and maintaining social services such as schools and child care in rural areas.
“SCOR works tirelessly to promote the economic opportunity of agri-food and rural prosperity in our communities. OFA is proud to partner with SCOR on advocacy issues that affect rural communities and the strong agricultural roots in the five-county region.” Keith Currie, President, OFA
Driving through the agricultural countryside you will notice signs proudly claiming membership to the OFA with SCOR farms representing 16% of OFA farm families across the Province (1).
